Оглавление
  • This book collects fourteen essays published by leading philosopher Hartry Field over a period of thirty years, together with one previously unpublished essay. Many of the papers in this handy collection have made substantial contributions to some of the central topics of analytic philosophy: the theory of truth, the nature of intentional content, the indeterminacy of reference, and the objectivity of mathematics. Included are such classics as “Tarski's Theory of Truth,” “Mental Representation,” and “Theory Change and the Indeterminacy of Reference.” Field has appended substantial postscripts to most of these essays: providing further clarifications and elaborations, answering criticism and acknowledging mistakes, pointing out areas where his thought has changed and extending it into new areas.
